THE WEDDING PLANNER
Originating from Durham, Sharon Ridley-Smith moved to Italy for work over 30 years ago, fell in love, married and settled on one of the most beautiful coasts in the country... The Amalfi Coast.
After many years of working in tourism and then with local wedding planners, she realised that there was nothing nicer than watching a couples’ love story unfold and knowing she was part of the happy ending.
That’s why she set up Marriage Made in Italy – to give couples a completely bespoke destination wedding planning service where your wishes are important and your dreams can become reality. Furthermore With Marriage Made in Italy, Sharon offers personal guidance for weddings and other special events like intimate elopements, vow renewals and wedding proposals.

This includes everything from helping with your ceremony documentation, booking the perfect reception and ceremony venue and making sure the right photographer has been found, to ensuring the flowers and decorations are exactly as you dreamt they would be.
She puts her all into adding the final touches and most importantly, no matter the size or budget, conducts a full day coordination on your wedding day to make sure it runs flawlessly, without a hitch.

Q&A WITH SHARON
How does marrying in Italy differ from the UK?
Apart from being considered the most romantic country in the world, the gorgeous scenery, sparkling blue sea and glorious weather are hard to resist. It also gives the couple a romantic reason to visit again on their first anniversary, who wouldn't love that?
How long in advance do couples need to plan?
At least a year gives them more possibility of booking the venue of their dreams and getting the suppliers of their choice. The legal or religious side of the wedding needs approx six months to organise.
What do you offer to couples wishing to marry in Italy?
I offer completely bespoke weddings, working alongside each couple to help organise their special and unique wedding day.
MY ROLE ISN'T JUST A PROFESSIONAL ONE, IE MAKING SURE THE DOCUMENTS ARE CORRECT AND DELIVERED ON TIME, BEING AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE PLANNING PERIOD AND GIVING FULL COORDINATION ON THE WEDDING DAY.
BUT IT IS A PERSONAL ONE TOO, MAKING SURE THE GROOM'S BUTTONHOLE IS ON, THE BRIDE'S DRESS IS POSITIONED PERFECTLY FOR PHOTOS AND BEING A FRIEND TOO!

What venues do you recommend and why?
Whether its a very modern top floor terrace, nightclub built into the rock or a luxury 5 star hotel, they all have extraordinary seaviews.
I would definitely recommend the ruins of an ancient basilica in the town of Scala or the cloisters of a monastery, now part of a luxury hotel to couples who are looking for a location which has a sacred feel to them. Their positions are quite amazing and make for a fabulous photo shoot, after all what is a celebration without momentus photographs?
Villa Andrea is situated in an area famous for its Greek Temples and has perfect gardens, cascading pool and walkway lined with Cyprus trees. It has a late licence, is extremely good value and it is possible to have a civil ceremony there too.
Palazzo Pascal is a 5 star boutique hotel adorned with colourful ceramics and fabulous paintings which sits on the hillside in the sleepy hamlet of Scala. The beautifully-kept gardens overlooking the town of Ravello and the sea make it the perfect setting.
