ETERNAL FLAME
Amy and Alex’s love story is proof that a true connection knows no distance. After meeting in the most modern of ways – Tinder, how else? – and hitting it off, Amy moved away to Yorkshire. A whole 18 months later, a text from Alex asking for tips for a visit to York rekindled their fledgling romance and they’ve never looked back since.
Although relatively smooth, the path to their ‘I do’s had one obstacle – the Boxing Day downpour that almost turned Alex’s carefully planned proposal into a rain check “We were going for walk up Low Fell in Lorton Valley, which is my favourite walk, but it was very wet,” Amy explains. “So, I suggested one of the other fells might make for a drier climb, but Alex was adamant that we must get soaked going up Low Fell! There was, however, a silver lining: “As we reached the summit, the clouds cleared, revealing the view down to Crummock Water below, and Alex on one knee! We were soaked through, but I couldn’t have pictured it better!”

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
When it came to planning their wedding, there were a few wrinkles in the Cumbrian couple’s plan: a summertime move to Canada, as well as Alex’s scheduled back surgery meant that the couple couldn’t start laying down logistics until they knew that the groom had recovered well, but this allowed only 12 weeks to plan the whole she-bang.
Luckily, they hit upon their dream venue, High Hundhowe – family-run by Hundhowe Weddings & Events – via an Instagram search and booked a viewing for Amy’s birthday. Grand and beautifully restored with plentiful outdoor space, its beautiful valley views were only surpassed by the warm, authentic welcome from owners Jill and Chris.
This personable touch ran through to the main event, with Jill serving the bridal party breakfast in the Sunroom. After the church ceremony, guests were transported to Hundhowe in taxis for the drinks reception, before everyone sat down to a delicious meal in the Billiard Room, followed by homemade cake and mingling in the terrace’s golden sunshine.
Evening guests arrived for the start of The Seals’ live set in the Great Hall, followed by dancing and a hog roast provided by The Striped Kitchen, while The Cheshire Bar Company poured signature cocktails to keep revellers refreshed. After a short lead time of planning, the blissful bride and groom were able to truly immerse themselves in the moment, knowing that all the on-the-day logistics were safe in the hands of Heather, the venue’s talented wedding planner.
I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT ALEX MADE THIS WEDDING HAPPEN. WHILE I SORTED OUT THE DETAILS AND DÉCOR, HE WAS BUSY RINGING SUPPLIERS, ALL WHILE RECOVERING FROM SURGERY. I PICKED A GOOD ONE! AMY, THE COUPLE
CHASING RAINBOWS
The bride opted to style the stately country house herself, aiming for a floral-themed, rustic feel, with pretty rich hues and bright tones. “I wanted everyone to wear what they wanted so that they could wear it again – I’m an environmental scientist, so I think reusing is really important.”
Eco-conscious Amy was similarly savvy about sourcing decorative baubles, gathering candlestick holders, centrepieces vases and glassware from charity shops and the couple’s sisters, who had both married themselves in recent years and still had pieces they’d crafted themselves.
#OOTD
Despite envisaging herself in a minimalist satin high-necked dress, Amy found herself opting for boho-babe vibes with a dreamy sequin-dappled tulle-and-lace Essense of Australia gown sourced from Blush Brides in Whitehaven.
ROSE-TINTED LENSE
From romantic maze moments to bridal party banter, observant photographer Sarah captured every memorable scene for Amy and Alex to remember forever.
Amy recounts: “We loved Sarah’s natural, bright and colourful but not overly edited style and wanted photos that would stand the test of time,” smiling, she adds, “She was absolutely fantastic and captured the happy, relaxed atmosphere among our close friends and family, and her eye for finding the perfect locations, while putting everyone at ease, was much appreciated.

THANKS A BUNCH
Amy enlisted the help of her father’s florist friend to source her last-minute blooms and put her mum and sister to work arranging the vibrant bouquets, buttonholes and table flowers – a real family affair!
BELLE LOVES
The wedding’s vibrant colour palette. While classic neutrals will always have their place, the decision to welcome all colours of the rainbow into the venues décor and big-day details embraced the true spirit of summer.
