REAL WEDDING

READ THE ROMANCE

Originally from opposite ends of the country, this pair first laid eyes on each other at the theatre company they both had joined. “Jacob’s originally from Essex but moved up here to study – and luckily for me – never left!” Charlotte laughs. Their relationship moved apace, and in true dramatic fashion, Jacob orchestrated an epically romantic proposal, amid the desert dunes at sunset during a holiday to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. “It was so special, I wouldn’t change it for the world,” she smiles.

A MIDDLETON MED

And with their mutual love of the arts, it went without saying that this couple’s big day was going to be a classy production. “Originally, our plan was to get married in Tuscany: villa-style outdoor ceremony, long tables, candles, the works!” our bride explains. However, as the pandemic took hold, it became clear that this Mediterranean dream wasn’t going to become a reality. And so, they began researching UK venues – and had a stroke of luck.

Enter stage left, North Yorkshire’s Middleton Lodge estate, and its rustic-luxe space, Fig House. With generous floor-to-ceiling arched windows and charming, honey-hued brickwork, this exquisitely restored building also has a terrace that leads on to the Walled Garden beyond, ideal for creating that Italian feel that the almost-weds were seeking. “
Fig House’s sleek, simplistic décor made it the perfect canvas to fill with the white flowers and candles I’d dreamed of,” Charlotte says. Helen of Bels Flower was entrusted with the task of bringing together their white-and-green botanical palette for the floral installations and bridal party bouquets, adding to the easy glamour of the day with pretty textural foliage arrangements and velvety roses.

“IF I COULD BOTTLE ONE MOMENT, IT’D BE US FIRST SEEING EACH OTHER FROM OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE AISLE. IT WAS JUST SO EXCITING!”

CHARLOTTE, THE BRIDE

OPEN AIR FLAIR

Clement spring weather allowed for the vows to take place on the sun-soaked terrace, and for guests to mill around exploring the estate’s immaculate gardens while the newly-married bride and groom stole away to the Walled Garden for a few private moments before using the spot as the perfect couple’s shoot backdrop. After the wedding breakfast and speeches, Charlotte and Jacob took their first dance to One Day Like Thisby Elbow – a choice that perfectly reflects their unconventional taste and upbeat outlook as a couple. At dusk, before the revelry got fully underway, the newlyweds and their guests took to the terrace once more to light up the night sky with sparklers.

The super-stylish mother of the bride, with her colour scheme-matching botanical print pussy-bow and satin headband ensemble. Bravo mum!
