Situated on a quaint street in Durham, Blue Bow Bridal offers a luxury bridal browsing experience like no other. We catch up with Blue Bow Bridal's owner Cheryl to uncover the magic of her boutique that has made dream dreams a reality for countless North East brides.

Talk us through Blue Bow's beginnings...

I’ve been in the industry for such a long time now, it’s part of my DNA. I had itchy feet for so long to open a second boutique in the area close to where I lived so when the right property became available we just went for it and have never looked back.

How did you come up with Blue bow's name?

I knew the name I wanted even before we had found the perfect boutique! It goes back to the wonderful bridal tradition of something blue and tying the knot. We decided to entwine a little luck into our name, so when a bride buys her dress from us, we are her something blue, her lucky charm.

What do you love about your job?

Every day is different in the boutique, it’s always filled with high energy, love and happiness. It doesn’t feel like a job at all, we spend our days becoming a bride's extended family!

Favourite label at the moment?

Stella York is definitely our brides' most loved label but we are extremely excited by the new Tiffany’s bridal collection this season, they have really raised the bar for exciting designs at an affordable price point and amazing quality. Our brides are going to fall in love with their gowns this year, its a very strong collection.

Price range?

Our dresses range from £400-£1800. We always work closely with our brides, listen to what they are trying to achieve and make sure we are considerate of their budget.

Why is blue bow different?

We are extremely confident that our unique combination of expertise, passion for what we do, personal touches, luxury setting, and of course, stunning dresses means we offer an unrivaled experience that will be cherished forever.

What's the one thing you would change in the industry?

No shows. Occasionally brides make appointments and just don’t turn up or let you know they have found their gown, it costs the industry so much when just a quick message is all it takes. If they don’t let us know, our boutique will be empty for two hours. Regularly we have extra staff in to cover the appointment and we could have sold a dress to another bride in that time so it’s an expensive, empty two hours. It’s the most frustrating thing that we have to deal with and sadly is becoming more regular.

What gets you up in the morning?

Usually, it’s my three-year-old little man wanting breakfast 😂, but really it’s the knowledge that we are going to be making dreams come true and bringing visions to life – there are not many professions that get to say that every day.

What do you love about being on the Belle Bridal Guest List?

Being a guest list member is more than just an advert in a magazine. It’s extra support when we’d need it, being part of a community of other industry professionals to share views with and so much more. We have been a member since the start and we love everyone at Belle and what it stands for.
