Floral Grace are the go-to for awe-inspiring wedding florals that evoke elegance and romance in tandem. Having been in the industry for 23 years and counting, owner Claire is a shining example of what sheer talent and hard work can achieve – pretty marvellous floral installations, put together in fabulous fashion for the most magical day of your life. Here we meet the horticultural expert and get to the root of her passion for petals…

Tell us a little about your journey into floristry...

When I first left school I wanted to be a window dresser or work in stage design, and I thought floristry might be a way of using display work to gain some experience. Not expecting to fall in love with floristry, I found I had a natural flare for it. From the age of 16 I have worked with Newcastle's most popular florists. In 2014 an opportunity came up for me to go it alone and it’s been the best decision I've made. It’s not been easy, but it’s such a rewarding job – it’s my complete passion. I now have a lovely studio to welcome couples, with lots to see and have a chat in the surroundings of all things flowers.

How would you describe your style?

I love wildness and very informal designs where flowers fall naturally, a 'picked from the garden' look. I equally love big blousy blooms and the delicate wild British flowers with lots of textured foliages.

What areas do you cover geographically?

I cover the whole North East of England and Northumberland regions, but I would never rule anywhere out!

What are your key products for 2021?

This year I am going to be working more with locally-grown British flowers - there are so many stunning varieties and colours. I’m also enjoying working with dried flowers – from decorative wreaths, to mantel arrangements and of course bridal bouquets and wedding décor.

I love mixing dried and fresh together to create a boho vibe!

Anything you want to see less of in wedding floristry (any pet hates?)

I don’t have any pet hates, I’m happy just to collaborate with brides to bring their visions to life with my Floral Grace styling.

Describe your dream bouquet and favourite blooms…

I have so many favourite blooms, but a dream bouquet has to be a natural design - quite big with lots of textured foliage, trailing Jasmin vines, Dahlias, Cosmos, Scabious and my favourite Cornflowers with a few big blousy Roses… a very informal bouquet."
