If you feel like you had a pretty unproductive lockdown year (girl, same), you might not want to compare notes with Sophie.

Because this Channel Island-based bridal maven used the socially-distanced summer of 2020 to turn her fashion-degree background into an independent couturier business. Turns out some of us used the time we’d have spent watching Love Island wisely…

She set up Bride by Sophie, the Guernsey-based design house on our Guest List, and commissioned various pieces of luxury bridalwear for style savvy brides-to-be looking for an utterly unique garment for their big day.

But, with many brides putting a pause to their dress hunt due to Covid, she has branched out into making other bespoke pieces under new label Sewphie – a curation of eco-conscious, limited edition garments, and has opened The Bridal Room, an in-house appointment space where future brides-to-be can come in for one-to-one consultations, fittings and final pre-nuptial sashay.

We all know that accessories can make an outfit, and your wedding day is no different. Luckily, Sophie got the memo, and is well on her way to building a collection of semi-precious crystal jewellery, belts, headdresses, kimonos, stoles, face masks, scarves and scrunchies (don’t panic, they’re for the getting-ready phase of the day) to complement her bridalwear line.

However, our favourite is the customised vintage denim jacket, emblazoned with the words ‘Ever After’ and dappled with Swarovski crystals. Not just a cool cover-up, but a lovely memento from your special day.

Beyond Bridal

“The situation over the past few months means that I’ve had very little interest from new bridal clients,” Sophie explains. “Therefore, I’ve decided to branch out into making other bespoke pieces for clients under the label Sewphie.”

Following in the same slow-fashion footsteps as Bride by Sophie, the brand’s designs deliver one-off eco-luxury for fashion-conscious clients who want something a little different but still impeccably chic.

The bee-embroidered trench coat with a silk lustre would make a wonderful honeymoon – and lifetime – wardrobe investment.
