Move Over Brides, Kids Are The New VIPs

DATE 5 September 2018

Bucking the recent trend of child-free weddings, couples are now making their young guests the stars of the show, according to Yorkshire’s Oulton Hall.
Brides and grooms are going to great lengths to keep the little ones entertained by hiring bouncy castles, inflatable obstacle courses and oversized garden games. Evening celebrations, usually focused on the adults, are being made child-friendly with nannies, entertainers and games zones to ensure these junior guests are having fun well into the evening.
Caroline Smith, wedding coordinator at Oulton Hall, said: “We’ve seen a shift in weddings in 2018, they’ve had a much more family feel compared to previous years. The preference for adult only weddings seems to have eased and we’re seeing couples go all out to not just accommodate, but to really entertain young guests.
“The little ones are also being given starring roles, following in the footsteps of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. It’s meant that wedding guests are paying just as much attention to the children’s outfits as they are the brides!”

Kids’ entertainment isn’t the only part of the day that’s gone VIP in 2018, says the team at the Grade II listed country mansion, decorations are also getting some special attention too, after a lavish affair at the venue appeared on the nation’s favourite Yorkshire soap, Emmerdale.
Huge wedding arches made of giant Japanese blossom trees, statement centrepieces and candle-filled lanterns are all gaining popularity, while furniture gets dressed down with a surge of requests for simple chiavari-style chairs over the more traditional chair covers and sashes.
Luxurious weddings are complete with the addition of the newly-refurbished bridal suite. The suite, which caters for the bridal party’s morning preparation needs, features crystal chandeliers, statement wallpaper by Christian Lacroix and an extra-deep, king-size bed as well as an adjoining dressing room with full-length mirrors, plenty of sockets for hair dryers and straighteners, and a special wedding dress hanger suitable for even the longest of trains.
