We know that planning a wedding can be stressful work for our lovely brides-to-be, so we decided to showcase the perfect option for that charming weekend away or stylish #staycation you very much deserve.

Our Editor-in-Chief, Karen Bell, has taken a look at the scenic venue of The Rudding Park Hotel and has given us an honest review of one of Yorkshire's most luxurious hotels.

Rudding Park Hotel and Spa is, at its heart, a Grade 1 listed Regency house, sitting majestically amidst 300 acres of parkland. It boasts 90 bedrooms, a spa, a kitchen garden, private cinema, on-site chapel, two restaurants and a golf course. Behind the Regency house, which is mainly used for weddings and events, lies the contemporary hotel and state-of-the-art spa.

I’ve come along to see the new spa (any excuse!) and have a mini adventure before returning to my usual day job and accompanying looming deadline. After a short tour, one thing is for sure: this is no ‘mumsy’ country house hotel. It’s a creative fusion of classic meets modern and the hotel is interesting at almost every turn.

The Library area ticks all my interior design boxes with its snazzy hanging spherical chair and colour-pop aesthetics. Orange chairs and blue walls showcase a multi-coloured velvet sofa. It’s really cool and not at all what I was expecting.

Modern stripes run along the walls in the main hotel corridors, huge modern paintings and sculptures are dotted about as great conversation pieces, and my suite for the night - a Follifoot Wing suite - opens onto the beautifully landscaped gardens opposite the new spa. I have my own little terrace, which is a lovely touch on a wonderfully sunny day like today, and I can see my terrace table begging for a glass of Prosecco to hold up.

Our suite is a decent size. It’s modern, with monogrammed pillows, grey carpets sporting oversized checks, and even a leopard-print chair. The king size beds are hugely comfortable, while the spacious bathroom provides a home for Molton Brown products. Then there’s the sauna. Yes, we have a sauna in our suite(!), and we make a mental note to take advantage of this facility before we leave.

I stroll along to the spa, which is sleek, clinical and very impressive. I love the relaxation suites (they even have colouring-in books for adults!) and the rooftop spa with its hydrotherapy pool, saunas, spa bath and steam rooms dotted amongst lounging areas, trees and shrubs. The 17-metre pool with floor-to-ceiling windows is the perfect showcase for the landscaped gardens. It’s a cool, calm and collected showcase of how to get it right when it comes to building the perfect spa. No noisy crowds, no pool area spilling into too-close food areas, everything seems to be in the right place with enough space in between. I feel tranquillity in abundance, without ever feeling lost.

Later that evening, my partner and I dine at the two AA Rosette Clocktower Restaurant. We both opt for cod fillet with Jerusalem artichokes and smoked mussels, a triumph of flavours and a lightness that is simply delightful. Another notable addition is, of course, Horto at Rudding Park (“Horto” is Latin for kitchen garden). This three AA Rosette eatery uses seasonal ingredients from the hotel’s kitchen garden, a from plot to plate approach boasting à la carte dining, plus seven- and eight-course tasting menus with a twist – I make another mental note to return and try this.

After a hearty breakfast (and awesome sauna!) it’s time to leave. We have loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat. Rudding Park is the ultimate relaxing getaway, great location, wonderful facilities and super-friendly staff.
