Careful Planning

Charlotte, Founder and CEO of wedding planning consultancy Our Story Begins, waited over nine years until her boyfriend Pete finally popped the question in Paris.

Like most brides, Charlotte gleefully embarked on planning every detail, until she realised just how unsustainable her big day could be.

‘I had caterers pushing for to buy more food to make sure there was enough for everyone, makeup artists wanting to use brands I know are tested on animals and florists pushing the ‘most beautiful flowers’ which would have to be flown in because they would be out of season in the UK’ – Charlotte

This realisation is why Charlotte created her own planning business.

Our Story Begins provides brides with a sustainable and ethical wedding by offering a multitude of options, such as sourcing organic food, using seasonal flowers and opting for up-cycled décor (to name a few).

Sprinkle of Sustainability

Newlyweds are often showered with confetti after tying the knot, and although this tradition has thankfully upgraded from being sprinkled with rice (no, it’s not that nice), the volume of wasted paper isn’t too kind on the environment.

Thankfully, Your Confetti is on-hand to provide all the pretty paper, while cutting through all the waste with an environmentally friendly edge.

All of their bespoke designed confetti is 100 percent biodegradable, and they also provide the option of bamboo pots and personalised packaging, meaning you can get that cliché colourful confetti wedding snap without harming our precious planet.

Say Yes to the (Rented) Dress

We’ve all been seduced by the allure of next day delivery and discounts to make another unnecessary purchase, haven’t we?

It’s undeniable that shopping is more accessible than ever, but that brings about its own problems –an estimated £140 million worth of used clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year.

Elsie Jean Bridal, a boutique with a difference, is paving the way for wedding dress shopping to be sustainable.

The boutique source and regularly update their collection of gowns for brides, bridesmaids and accessories that are all available to hire.

Choosing to rent your dress for the big day is environmental friendly AND affordable – for instance, a £1862 Blush by Hayley Paige gown is available to rent for £300. Now that’s a #BelleBargain.

In such unprecedented times it’s easy to allow COVID-19 to be our only focal discussion, but climate change is still an on-going issue.

After all, there's no Planet B.
