For a bride, picking your perfect flowers is an essential part of the planning journey. Flowers have the ability to complete shape your wedding day aesthetic, bringing a pop of colour, an edge of alternative or a breath of light. You might have a moodboard, or a few screenshots of what you’d like to achieve, so when picking a florist it’s imperative that they can implement your vision and know exactly which flowers, colours and composition to create.

Step in Mindenwood Floral Design, a Northern florist with a natural zest for bespoke blooms. Owner and head florist Lisa is a natural at creating unique styling setups, bouquets and everything in-between, incorporating a relaxed and natural aesthetic fused with a modern, on-trend feel.

An effervescent flow of feminine hues and dreamy blooms, we worked with the lovely Lisa to create a cohesive look in the ceremony room at Lartington Hall, one of the North East’s most luxurious venues.

Simply speaking to Lisa on the phone and discussing our ideas was enough for her to create this stunning styling, full of texture and movement to create a timeless romance which blended perfectly into the tones and light of the Dining Room. Knowing the space and the time of year, Lisa used the wallpaper as inspiration to create an installation that fused seamlessly with the surroundings.

WHY MINDENWOOD?

Based in the naturally stunning county of Durham, Mindenwood Floral Design specialises in wedding and event flowers, making each occasion even more beautiful than you imagined.

Lisa covers North East England - Durham, Darlington, Northumberland and Tees Valley, and North Yorkshire. Of course, she’d be happy to travel further for fabulous weddings and venues.

Autumn weddings are known for their warm and inviting colour palettes that embrace the rich and vibrant hues of the season. Here are some of the best colour schemes for an autumn wedding:

1. Cranberry and Forest Green

Cranberry red and forest green are classic fall colours that encapsulate the vibe of changing leaves and the holiday season. This combination is rich and visually striking. This is the perfect colour combination for a Christmas wedding as you can add cranberries and holy to your  centrepieces.

2. Rustic Orange and Burgundy

Burnt orange and burgundy are quintessential autumn colours. They create a warm and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of falling leaves and harvest time. These colours would compliment wood features and rustic style. Embrace the cozy vibes of fall with a pumpkin spice-inspired colour scheme, with distinct decor such as pumpkins and cinnamon sticks for a true autumn feel.

3. Copper and Hazel

Copper and hazel tones provide a rich and earthy colour scheme that is perfect for a rustic or bohemian autumn wedding. These colours work well with natural elements like dried florals and crisp greenery.

4. Sage Green and Dusty Rose

Sage green paired with dusty rose creates a soft and romantic palette. These colours evoke the subtle, earthy tones of fall foliage. A muted pink adds a vintage touch while the soft green brings back the nature aspect.

5. Deep Red and Gold

Deep reds and rich golds create a luxurious and romantic atmosphere. These colours are flexible as they work well for both traditional and modern autumn weddings. Deep gold or amber tones can evoke the feeling of autumn sunlight with an added touch of luxury.

6. Jewel Tones

Rich, jewel-toned colours can add a touch of luxury to your autumn wedding. Consider deep purple to add depth and sophistication, emerald green, sapphire blue, and ruby red for a regal and elegant feel and to add a pop of colour. These colours pair well with metallic accents like gold or copper.

When selecting your colour scheme, consider the overall style and ambiance you want for your wedding. Your colour scheme can be matched and complimented in every element of your wedding, not just your decor, think dresses, suits, invitations, paint the town red! Test different combinations and swatches to see how they look together in various lighting conditions, and choose the one that resonates most with your vision for your autumn wedding.

As always, the Belle Bridal Guest List is the ultimate source of planning inspiration. Search our florists, stylists and designers to uncover amazing ideas for colour-themes and aesthetic building.

The wedding cake holds a prominent role on a couple's momentous day - from the captivating cake-cutting photos to the heartfelt compliments and the joy of sharing the exquisite creation with cherished guests.

As a skilled cake maker, I am well aware of the countless hours dedicated to crafting a wedding cake. I invest ample time conversing with my couples, meticulously understanding their desires for the cake and dessert table, and incorporating personal touches into the design.

However, it can be disheartening to arrive at the venue and find an ageing square table adorned with a plain white cloth, a lacklustre cake stand, and tucked away inconspicuously in a corner near a fire extinguisher.

Today, I am delighted to share some ideas on how to elevate your cake display, transforming it into an integral part of your unique wedding decor. With the addition of a few props and a captivating stand, you can truly take your cake table to new heights – from lavish plinths to mesmerising backdrops and resplendent floral displays, the options are limitless.

Exquisite Table Dressing

While we understand that budget considerations play a significant role in wedding planning, rest assured that creating a stunning cake table does not mean you have to break the bank. Allow me to present an example: one bride opted for delightful sugar cookies and delectable treats as table accents. Paired with a magnificent crystal cake stand and an elegant sash in the wedding colours cascading along the table's edge, the result was a breathtaking table of refined luxury.

Images below: Isabelle Biggs Photography

Captivating Cake Stands and Hoops

One way to infuse drama and sophistication into your cake table is by using an exquisite cake stand or hoop. Most venue dressers offer these for rental at a nominal cost. Enhance their allure by adorning them with delicate blossoms, transforming them into ethereal masterpieces. An arrangement of candles and artfully arranged jars filled with fresh flowers will only add to the beauty.

Hayley Gell Photography

MAKE IT BOLDER

For an awe-inspiring setup, consider incorporating a cake plinth swathed in an elegant black cloth. Add two sleek black stands—one to display the bride's bouquet and another adorned with charger candles and black candles for a touch of mystique.

Elevating Plinths

I MUST CONFESS, ACRYLIC ACCENTS HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART AS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PROPS. THE RANGE OF OPTIONS, FROM MAGNIFICENT PLINTHS TO RESPLENDENT FLORAL CROWNS, IS SIMPLY AWE-INSPIRING

For those seeking the epitome of luxury, plinths offer an extraordinary touch to elevate your cake table (literally). They can be transformed into bespoke masterpieces, personalised with a meaningful quote and the cherished date of your wedding.

They also serve as striking solitary displays, showcasing your cake in all its splendour. Alternatively, these magnificent structures can be artfully grouped to exhibit an exquisite array of bouquets, cherished photographs, and flickering candles, creating a visual setup of dreams.

Shaun Walker Photography

Exquisite Floral Crowns

Floral crowns are another prop option for your wedding cake. They offer cake makers the opportunity to work with exquisite blooms that may otherwise be surplus to requirements, brining a harmonious botanical elegance to the setup.

The Artistry of Backdrops and Floral Splendour

In the realm of opulent weddings, backdrops are key. These enchanting creations available in a range of shapes and sizes can capture attention quickly, whether you opt for a simple yet captivating board or the ethereal beauty of a pampas wall. While their acquisition may come at a premium, it is essential to envision them as not merely serving the cake alone but rather as an integral part of the whole wedding styling.

Shaun Walker Photography

In Summary

I trust that the ideas I have shared will ignite your imagination, bringing your wedding vision to life. As a skilled cake maker I will not only make the cake of your dreams, but work with your venue stylist to create an incredible wedding cake table setup.

Wishing you a truly extraordinary wedding day,

Tasha x

Your stationery is a crucial part of any wedding. Invitations must reflect your relationship and personalities through themes and colours and, therefore, must be chosen carefully. With so much riding on your wedding stationery, staying current with the ever-changing trends we see in modern weddings can be overwhelming and challenging. Fortunately, you don't have to do it alone! Here are some tips, tricks and trends that will help ensure your save the dates, wedding invites and thank you cards reflect the unique love story between you both while staying totally on trend today. So grab a seat (or maybe a glass of bubbly!), and let us talk you through this journey!

Get the invite right!

Let's dive straight in! Your wedding invitations are more than just an announcement - they're also your chance to share a glimpse of the special moments and memories yet to be made on your special day. Picking out your favourite design, theme, and style will determine how guests feel before ever stepping foot into the venue whilst also giving them an insight into what colours and aesthetics to expect. Naturally, therefore, it’s worth some careful consideration! Make sure you both have fun with this process; we've got all the details on our top invitation picks that'll help you find those perfect stationery keepsakes as you celebrate a fantastic milestone in your lives.

Archway Invitations

Positive: This invitation style is so modern and unique that it’s fast becoming a popular go-to for brides! With an interesting yet soft and feminine shape, it’s a perfect way to nod to modern trends whilst still choosing a design or theme that resonates with you.

Consider: This will be a 2023 Bride’s favourite shape, so if your goal is to stand out or ensure your wedding look is individual and new, this may not be the template for you. It may also have its challenges regarding space for information, so if you have a lot to share with your guests, you may benefit from a style that allows for more room.

Boutique Invitations

Positive: If you’re looking for a traditional and timeless invitation style, this is the one for you! Along with a romantic and conventional look, there is ample space to share all the guest information you need.

Consider: Along with the luxury look and different pieces in a boutique invitation set comes a considerably higher price. Therefore, If you’re not looking to spend too much on your wedding stationery, this style may not be the one for you.

Adding those perfect touches to this special day should be stress-free and enjoyable. It should be a moment to look back on with fondness and happy memories! We’d love to help you out! Consider all your options regarding wedding stationery design, style and colour, and chat with your partner about their preferences. Along with our expert advice and beautiful quality paper, creating an invite that genuinely reflects you both as a couple can be effortless and fun. Don't worry about mistakes or budgeting limits; we'll guide you through selecting a style that's just right for both of you!

Top Tip!

If you’re looking to save money and devote your wedding budget to more significant areas such as venue, dress and food, then spending the time to scour social media could be massively beneficial. Why not have a research day with your bridal party, assigning each of them to a specific area. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok are full of tips, tricks and real-life weddings to gather inspiration and ideas, plus introduce you to new brands!

Create a theme

Your wedding day is right around the corner, and it's time to think about where you'll say ‘I do’ and how that setting will shape the theme of your wedding! Whether a bohemian celebration awaits or an elegant soiree in a beautiful estate, every venue comes with its own unique atmosphere. The venue will massively play directly into deciding colour palettes, fonts & styles for all things bridal! Think dreamy loveliness with botanical elements and delicate font choices for your outdoor, bohemian venue. In contrast, classic estates and halls call out bold colours accented by traditional floral stationery and regal lettering, perfect for making a remarkable statement! Of course, there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to weddings. You must also be sure to get creative and find something beautifully tailored just for you. You won't regret embracing exactly what makes YOUR big day uniquely yours!

Picking the perfect invitations for your wedding can be one of the most enjoyable and exciting tasks. There are endless options to choose from, but it's no secret that this could take some serious time! To ensure you stay calm with decisions, start by keeping things simple and minimal when choosing your invites or save the dates. That way, nothing has to change if you find something you love along the way! Then, simply switch shades & tones until you bring your perfect vision to life!

Some themes and ideas we love include:

Something Blue: Blue is a popular colour trend for weddings and compliments many other colour schemes or themes. Take a modern twist on the traditional “Something blue” by using it as part of your wedding invitations!

Neutral Foliage: If florals feel too colourful and feminine for your perfect wedding, soft and neutral foliage is a great alternative. Eucalyptus is always a beautiful and popular choice for brides and is a theme that can be used in venue and decor.

Monogram: This is definitely a current go-to for 2023 brides and will soon become just as frequently requested as florals! Keeping things simple and chic will always be timeless and elegant, precisely what you want from your wedding day!

Rustic and natural: This theme will always be popular for brides who wish to have that soft and homey feel for their special day. A natural brown base surrounded by country florals is the perfect theme for a countryside or barn venue.

Wedding Trends to watch

With the world in a new and uncertain place after Covid-19 and the ever-changing financial climate, brides-to-be are hosting weddings that fit their unique tastes while also being mindful of the world around us. From more intimate ceremonies to digital celebrations, there's no telling what you can or can’t do for your special day! So let’s explore some fresh ideas so that you find exactly what’s working best for 2023 and beyond!

Petite Bouquets - Gone are the days of dramatic, waterfall bouquets! Instead, 2023 brides are opting for a much more understated floral arrangement. These mini bouquets allow for a smaller budget and even a chance to create them yourself.

Pearls are in - Pearls will pave the way for dresses and accessories. Sparkle is set to have its moment in 2023, but there’s still room for pearls. Brides can use them on nails, veils, dresses, and hair. This accessory continues the understated, minimal theme that’s taking over!

Eco-Friendly - Brides everywhere will embrace sustainability by investing in their eco-conscious dream weddings! From responsibly-sourced stationery (like ours!) to food, second-hand dresses and locally grown blooms, it's never been easier for couples to create a beautiful celebration while making the planet smile.

Smaller guestlist - Newly-engaged couples now opt for a much smaller guest list. Along with the rise in costs and after the pandemic, brides are enjoying the intimacy and personal feel of only having their closest family and friends present. In addition, this choice allows more money to be spent on the rest of the wedding, which brides are favouring.

Congratulations; you’ve just taken the first steps towards making your dream wedding come true! We really do love helping you create a memorable and beautiful day that is unique and personal to you and your partner. Trends, of course, have their place but don’t be afraid of going against them. If you feel it will bring out more of who you both authentically are, then you should definitely make your decisions based on what you love! After all, this should be a reflection of what makes the two of you perfect together. Invitations tend to set expectations, so take time to pick yours and enjoy the process. If you would like to see some extra ideas and styles, we've got plenty of options over on our socials or blog page; check them out today!

As optimistic as we are at Belle, we always like to err on the side of caution, especially when it means looking after our Bride’s best wishes - and more specifically - their bouquets.

As we dive straight into 2022 and the upcoming wedding season, we have worked with floral masterminds on the Belle Bridal Guest List, The Whole Sch-bang, to put together our guide to Seasonal flowers, and even more importantly, a guide to flowers that are in season all year round. Just in case the worst does happen and you need to switch your dates, you can sleep easy knowing you won’t need to switch your florals.

SPRING

As the days finally start to get lighter, with a sense of renewal and possibility in the air- god only knows we need a bit of that- spring weddings are both bride and florist favourites.

Bringing a riot of colours and scents, Spring flowers are typically a beautiful mix of delicate and textural, fragrant and symbolic.

COLOUR OF THE YEAR 2022:

Decidedly Purple, ‘Very Peri’- whilst being labelled Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2022- also happens to embody all the Spring pastel hues. Stunning sweet smelling Lilacs are contrasted by vibrant Parrot Tulips which create drama with their fluffy petals.

Hellebores are perfect for adding a wild, rustic edge to the design, or Italian poppies to emphasize this boho vibe!

SUMMER

Some of our flower favourites have a very limited season, and bloom at their best in summer only.

As peak Peony season begins as spring ends and extends through into late June they are seen as the quintessential wedding flower. Blooming in white, cream, yellow, pink and red hues it’s easy to see why, they bring a tropical colour palette to your day.

These can be paired with classic Holland Hydrangeas and luxury Roses- such as Chiffon, creating stunning, chic focal points, with less foliage and more floral.

AUTUMN

Bringing rich, moody, dramatic tones to your day, Autumn wedding flowers are all about embracing foliage and berries as well as floral favourites.

Mixing red foliage’s, dried flowers such as Palms and Pampus with crimson accent Roses and deep jewelled toned Dehlias creates an incredibly sultry harmony of florals. Autumnal leaves and branches add volume and texture to rust and golden Carnation and Scabiosa blooms.

WINTER

For colder winter weddings, we love rich burgundy, deep emerald green, dusty mauve tones and blue accents.

Botanical greenery and berries are perfect for helping to build and texturise the design, even bringing in Christmas foliage like evergreen sprigs, berries or acorns as a nod to the season.

Anemones with velvety centres and Lissianthus' create a monochromatic look that can work well if you don’t want to have that ‘Christmas vibe’ in your design.

ALL YEAR ROUND

Year-round flowers are not only relatively easy for your wedding florist to source but also ultimately mean it can reduce the overall cost of your florals.

Combining year-round flowers with more seasonal blooms creates arrangements that are a divine harmony of beautiful, affordable and also on-trend.

A symbol of romance, most Roses are grown in greenhouses and therefore available all year round, these enable brides to create a rich colour palette, blooming in a range of shades. A flower icon during the ’90s, Calla Lilies have made a comeback in recent years due to their luxe and elegant silhouette. Carnations are possibly the most versatile wedding flower as not only are they available in a rainbow of colours they also happen to be one of the easiest flowers to dye, enabling you to make this non-seasonal flower, seasonal!

Head over to our Guest List to see our floral suppliers that can help bring your flower, foliage vision to life!

While they add unmatched atmosphere and style, picking the wrong flowers can leave your big day décor looking more wilted than wonderful. There’s so many options out there. Precise, Pinterest-worthy petals, big, blousy, blow-your-socks off blooms, faux or fresh…

How do you know which flowers are right for your wedding? Which flowers work best together? What can you get for your budget? Here, in this exclusive Belle Bridal Guest List Guide to choosing your wedding flowers, we’ve got all the answers.

KNOW YOUR THEME

First things first, flowers must fit your theme. Many brides fall into the Instagram hole of floral heaven and book a florist without considering how their work will tie in with their theme.

BELLE TOP TIP:

Remember, your wedding photos will be with you for a lifetime; your flower choice can make all the difference to the look of your day.

Want to go boho? Dried fronds of pampas and palms provide a laidback luxe vibe.

Elegance is key? Opt for classic bouquets of roses and carnations for a traditional and timeless look.

Modern marvel? We can’t help but love eucalyptus. Sprigs here and there will create subtle, trend-setting style that’s in-keeping throughout the seasons.

FLOWER FOCUS: You don’t have to turn into Alan Titchmarsh, but it can be helpful to know your petunias from your peonies when picking your wedding flowers.

COLOUR SCHEME

We’re curing your January blues by showing you how to make the new colour of 2022 the focal point of your wedding blooms, and not just a slow Monday at the start of the year.

A dynamic periwinkle blue hue, with a vivifying violet red undertone, ‘VERY PERI’ has been announced as Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2022.

As we are finally starting to see the light at a very, very, very long tunnel (don’t worry we’re touching wood) it seems only right that the colour of 2022 looks like a stunning sunset sky we’re coming out the other side to.

Evoking notions of a ‘spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions,’ Very Peri embodies everything that we are manifesting for 2022- even more reason for you to use this as your floral colour scheme.

KNOW YOUR BUDGET

On average, the cost of wedding flowers from a professional florist will be £1,200-£1,500 – which understandably might make some brides immediately want to go DIY. But be aware – flowers are fiddly business.

If you want to save yourself the long nights cutting stems, trimming ribbons, matching shades and preventing them from dying a slow death in your over-heated, over-crowded, laundry-laden utility room – call on the experts.

They’ll source, arrange and deliver your flowers for you; they’ll know what last-minute changes to make; they’ll know which flowers to pair together; they’ll store them in a proper facility; the benefits are endless. The cost of florists differs on their specialism. Those who offer dried or faux flowers will be cheaper, whereas fresh flower florists will charge more for the upkeep and price to source.

Know your budget, and go from there. As always, research pays, and luckily we’ve done the hard work for you – found the best florists – so all you need to do is head to the glossary, get some quotes and see which fit your budget.

FIND YOUR SUPPLIER

But before you hurriedly pick your petal provider based on just affordability, you should ALWAYS check if their style is aligned with yours.

Yes a particular supplier might have been the cheaper option, but could there be anything worse than walking into your venue to see bunches of boring, underwhelming blooms in that particular shade of orange you’ve always hated? We think not.

Search through our Supplier Guest List to distinguish which of our Guest List florists tick your boxes.

Romi Bloom, Nomad Floral Styling and Wild and Wonderful are all exhibiting at Dalton Old Pump House Sunday 6th February.
