Wedding Venue To Open At Historic Charlton Hall In Northumberland

DATE 20 June 2017

The owner of Doxford Barns has acquired Charlton Hall with plans to open a second wedding venue overlooking the coast towards Beadnall Bay, set within secret English gardens, orchards and Charlton Lake. Charlton Hall wedding venue is set within a private 150-acre estate and plans to open its doors in December 2017.
Charlton Hall
The 18th Century Hall, located north of Alnwick is the second wedding venue owned by entrepreneur Richard Shell, who acquired the hall following success of the award-winning Doxford Barns - the quirky barn venue that provides bohemian couples with an exclusive three-day barn wedding with accommodation onsite.
Charlton Hall is steeped in history and the development plans for transforming the vacant Grade II property include retaining original features, as well as incorporating many historic artefacts in the grand rooms that were included in the sale.
Richard Shell, owner of Charlton Hall, said: "we have been looking for potential locations for a second wedding venue for some time and Charlton Hall provides the perfect opportunity.
"The overall plan is to create an enchanted venue for couples looking to marry in a private setting surrounded by magical and tranquil gardens. Set amongst scenic countryside and coastal views, we will also offer couples the option of hosting outdoor ceremonies surrounded by a walled garden, orchards and Charlton Lake
"In bringing Charlton Hall back to life, we're opening up the house for couples to create memories and to entertain family and friends within a setting, for what I believe, will become one of the North East's finest and most unique wedding venues."
Charlton Hall will draw on its close links to Alnwick and the Doxford Estate by employing local tradesman to transform the property and help make the venue a landmark in the area."
Richard said, "There are so many creative and talented people in our region and supporting local business keeps the economy in our area strong and gives people like my team along with local florists, photographers, musicians, artists and stylists, the chance to contribute their remarkable talents as well."
The significant investment will see the Grade II listed building full refurbished from the inside out with Josephine Aynsley, of Josephine Interior Design - Edinburgh, acting as lead designer.
The venue will include enchanted function and entertaining rooms, including a large formal drawing room with marble fireplace and dining room with views towards the coast making it perfect for intimate wedding breakfasts.
Charlton Hall has a rare and unique assortment of intimate underground lounges, with plans in mind to use the space for a dedicated whiskey bar for guests.
The hall itself has six large bedrooms with period country cottages set within the grounds for over 24 guests, with plans for further bedrooms to be included within the Hall.
Leading off from the bar are Charlton Hall's beautiful secret walled gardens, leading to a lakeside setting that will offer a tranquil space for outdoor receptions.
The countryard leads to the entrance of the rustic ceremony hall, which will seat up to 120 guests and overlooking Charlton Lake.
Charlton Hall's menu will reflect award-winning Head Chef John Blackmore's approach to fine dining that is guided by his commitment to using the finest fresh and seasonal ingredients - sourced from local suppliers - with an emphasis on serving dishes that challenge the norm.
John's accolades include gaining three AA rosettes while at Linden Hall, as well as leading Newcastle United to become the first football club to be voted in the Good Food Guide. While at Newcastle United, John was chosen to cook for the Queen in the Magpie who John had previously cooked for while at the Intercontinental Hotel.
Having sourced its first wedding booking, Charlton Hall is accepting bookings and private viewings for wedding dates in 2018. For further information contact info@charltonhallestate.com, or call on 01665 579173, or visit www.charltonhallestate.com
