A State of Grace: Grace Philips
If you haven't heard of Grace Philips, where have you been? As this label is making BIG waves in the bridal fashion world. The brainchild of Mooshki Bridal owner, Vikki McCarthy-Wright, the collection focuses on clean lines and silhouettes, coupled with luxurious fabrics.
All of the gowns implement the same signature corsetry technique as Mooshki Bridal, ensuring a svelte fit, but what is it that makes Grace Philips so different? Belle Bridal talks to Vikki, the brains behind the brand, to find out more…
What’s the inspiration behind the Grace Philips label?
We wanted to create a label that was the complete opposite to Mooshki. There were so many designs that our team created that are too good to lose, and it seemed a waste. They simply became Grace Philips.
Are there any elements of design that are fluid throughout the whole collection?
All the designs are slick, sleek, structured and simple. There’s no fuss or frills, and each design is created to enhance any woman’s figure.
If we asked you to pick a celebrity most suited to wearing a Grace Philips who would it be?
Kate Winslet, as she is all woman. She has got shape and embraces it.
We note you are using luxurious fabrics such a duchess and Mikado satin throughout, is there a reason you’ve chosen these fabrics?
For their luxury. Plus, they hold their shape and allow for dramatic silhouettes and clean lines.
Describe the Grace Philips bride in three words?
Elegant, glamorous, sensual.
The collection offers a very structured silhouette, is this a new trend you foresee for 2017?
Yes, definitely. While they are intricate, beautiful and photogenic, the slinky styles of Israeli designers that are all over Pinterest and Instagram are only wearable by brides who don’t need support for their curves.
What’s your favourite – ballgown or fishtail?
Fishtail, without a doubt. Pure Jessica Rabbit sex appeal!
We’re sure that, during the years you developed Mooshki Bridal, it was an insightful time. Is there anything you took from this experience and used when creating Grace Philips?
Mooshki dresses are renowned for their corsetry and we brought this across to Grace Philips.
Who are your fashion icons?
Dior, Chanel, McQueen, Commes des Garcons, Cate Blanchett, Daphne Guinness, Sophia Loren... The list could go on!
Where’s your haven and why?
Verona is one of my favourite places to visit each year. I was married there myself last year so it always has a place in my heart. Then there’s the amazing wine and gelato, of course…
What’s the biggest mistake a bride can make when shopping for her wedding dress?
Trying to listen to all the opinions of the bridesmaids she takes along with her!
